Skincare products contain variety of ingredients and every ingredient has a specific function to benefit the skin. In general, most of these ingredients can be categorized by their function into 4 groups:
Exfoliating Ingredients
These ingredients help to remove dead skin, unclog the congestions and gives you a smooth glowy skin. AHA and BHAs are chemical exfoliants which may include different types of exfoliating ingredients such as Mandelic, Azelaic, Lactic, and Salicylic Acids.

Protective Ingredients
The skincare ingredients which serve to protect the skin from environmental damages. The most well known protective ingredients are Antioxidants. Vitamins, and fruit extract-based skincare products belong to this group. Vitamins E, C, Biotin; pomegranate, soy extract, and green tea are some examples.

Restoring Ingredients
These are the skincare ingredients that have anti-aging effects and help improve dull skin tone, rough texture, and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some of these skin restoring ingredients are: Retinoids, Niacinamide, and Peptides.

Replenishing Ingredients
These are the ingredients responsible for keeping skin hydrated, nourished and soft. โSkin-replenishing ingredients are the โbricksโ of skinโs surface.โ These ingredients include Ceramides, Glycerin, Hyaluronic acid, and amino acids.
