Salicylic Acid

Function:
It is a type of beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that can help treat acne by exfoliating the skin and helping to dislodge dead skin cells that can clog pores.
Effective for treating hormonal acne.
It comes in 0.5%-2% concentrations.

Characteristics:
Exfoliant
Anti inflammatory

Mechanism:
The cells in the lining of the hair follicles of people with acne tend to multiply quickly, and stick to one another. Salicylic acid works by dissolving this cement that holds those sticky cells together in the clogged pores

Side effects:
Peeling and irritation may occur, especially at the start of treatment. Apply a smaller amount of the drug or use it less often.

Super powers:
Salicylic acid is for prevention and Benzoyl peroxide is for treatment.

Direction of use:
It comes in the form of gel, cream, mask, or cleanser. If used in the wash form you can tolerate it better because it won’t sit on your face for a long time. Use it in the gel form for spot treatment.
